Intensive Spanish Language

The Intensive Spanish Language Courses (CILE) are designed for those students who wish to start learning or improve their Spanish during a short stay in Granada or in preparation for a subsequent course of study.  We highly recommend that you take a CILE class in September or January if your goal is to advance into the Language and Culture program (in Spanish).  This is especially true if it has been a while since your last Spanish class!

CILE classes are taught at every level from A1 to C1 (CLM Level 1-Beginners to CLM Level 8-Superior).  An essentially communicative approach is followed in these courses along with the use of the most up-to-date audio-visual technology.  The average number of students per class is 12.

Spanish Language and Culture Course

The Language and Culture program is appropriate for advanced students who wish to complement their study of the Spanish language with content courses in culture, history, economics, politics, art history, etc.  In addition to the mandatory “Spanish Grammar” and “Spanish Speaking and Writing Skills” classes, the program offers a variety of subjects taught in Spanish for students with an adequate level of Spanish and in English for lower level students.  Students who are just beginning to study Spanish can enrol in this program!

Students in the Language and Culture program may complete an internship at a local educational institution. Students should check with their home universities regarding whether or not they can earn credit for this internship course.

Students must place into level B1.2 (CLM Level 5-Upper Intermediate) or have passed B1.1 (CLM Level 4-Intermediate) in order to enrol in the program taught entirely in Spanish.  As a general guideline, students who have taken approximately 3-4 semesters of college-level Spanish will place into Spanish Language and Culture.  Students must have a fair command of the Spanish language in order to succeed in these classes.

(Students who do not place into the adequate level will automatically be enrolled in the Language and Culture program’s content courses taught in English.  Students should confirm in advance that credit will be transferred for these courses in the event that this takes place.)
